The 4th Singapore Golden Lion Awards  International Music Arts Festival

Singapore Golden Lion Awards International Music and Arts Festival aims to promote the exchange and cooperation in the music, culture and art fields among young talents in Singapore, Southeast Asia and art communities worldwide.
 

This year it's extra special; we are providing master classes on top of competitions, orchestra, musicals and dance dramas for young talents. 

Organiser

International Musician Association Singapore

IMASG is a non-profit organisation registered with the Registry of Societies (ROS) in Singapore since 2016.

The committee was set up by a team of music artists, including the first-generation Chinese pianist Wu Yili, accomplished violinist Mr Kong Zhao Hui and Steinway Artist Benjamin Loh from the Nanyang Academy of Arts.

Festival Timeline

3rd Nov 2022 / Submission Deadline for Competition

The competition comprises two rounds, the Preliminary Round and the Final Round. Contesting in Preliminary Round is free of charge. 

To participate in the competition, you can either submit a video or express your interest in a live audition before 3rd Nov 2022.

20th Nov 2022 / Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of the 4th Singapore Golden Lion Awards International Music and Arts Festival will be held on 20 November at the Theatre on the 4th floor, China Cultural Centre, 217 Queen Street, Singapore 188548.

 

The event will feature a grand opening ceremony, followed by a series of Live Audition, masterclasses, orchestra, musicals, and dance over a span of two months.

20th Nov 2022 / Competition - Final Round

Candidates have two ways to participate in the Final Round. They can perform live for the competition, or they may submit the 2nd video before 20th Nov.

20th Nov 2022 / Masterclass and Rehearsal Performance

The Organising Committee will inform the time and venue of the master classes and rehearsals by 5 November through email.

The masterclasses and rehearsal performances of all other professions will be held on 20 November 2022 to 27 November 2022 and 8 January 2023 to 14 January 2023, depending on the participant's speciality.

15th Jan 2023 / Closing & Prize Presentation Ceremony

On 15th Jan 2023, all the participants will be invited to attend the 4th Festival's Red-Carpet Ceremony and watch the concert, competition result announcement and prize presentation, along with distinguished guests and renowned musicians at the Theatre on the 4th floor, China Cultural Centre, 217 Queen Street, Singapore 188548.

How to register

The Golden Lion Awards Competition comprises two rounds, the Preliminary Round and the Final Round. 

Preliminary Round 

Contesting in Preliminary Round is free of charge.

Online Video Screening

  • Contestants to record their full performance or a section of it to participate in the online video screening. 

  • Contestants need to provide their competition video to a designated URL during registration. 

  • Contestants are responsible for making clear video recordings and correctly uploading them to the online video website for review by the judges. Only original videos will be accepted; no alterations or edits to the video or audio are allowed. 

  • Those who passed the Preliminary Round will receive an invitation letter to the Final within one week and must complete the Final registration following the Organising Committee's requirements; otherwise, they will be disqualified from the competition.

Online video screening

  • For candidates who are unable to participate in the live competition, they can also choose to participate in the online video screening. They are required to provide the URL of the video to the Organizing Committee at the time of registration. The onus is on the candidate to produce a clear video recording and upload it correctly to the online video site for review by the judges. No alterations or edits to the video or audio is allowed. 

  • Judges will follow the same rubrics as the live competition in judging the video submissions. Candidates are required to submit the video of their performance by 20 November. The results of all candidates will be announced at the closing ceremony concert on 15 January 2023, and the trophies and certificates will be awarded to all individual and group prize-winners.

Live Audition

  • Register your interest for Live Audition before 3rd Nov 2022. 

  • The Live Audition will be held on 20 November at the Theatre on the 4th floor of the China Cultural Centre, Singapore.

  • Candidates will be notified of the time of their individual competition timeslots through email by 11 November 2022. 

  • Candidates must perform without the aid of any sheet music for the Final Round, otherwise there will be no points given.

  • Contestants must provide their own music accompaniment in advance if needed.

  • The judges have the right to interrupt a candidate's performance at any time during the repertoire, but this will not affect the candidate's score.

Important notes

Take note of these points before registering

  • Candidates can use the same piece for the preliminary and final rounds of the competition. 

  • Candidates must indicate the title, composer, and duration of all pieces during preliminary and final round registration. 

  • Candidates are not allowed to change their selected pieces after registration. 

  • Contestants may enter two categories but with different repertoires; all repertoire is limited to the original version of the work, and no simplified version is allowed. 

  • Repetitions in the instrumental repertoire, except for Da Capo, are optional.

Candidates' Entitlement

Here's what you get

after registering

  • All candidates are welcome to attend the opening and closing ceremony. Candidates can also sign up for masterclasses, competition and rehearsal performances for Orchestras, Dance, Musicals or Operas, according to their own specialty.

  • Candidates signed up for masterclasses can have the opportunity to receive professional coaching. The Singapore Symphony Orchestra's Associate Concertmaster, Violinist, Mr. Kong Zhaohui, with his renowned conductor and composer, will be performing at the concert, with music tailored to the Golden Lion Awards

  • Candidates in the Golden Lion Awards Competition. Renowned dance artist Yu Shuhuai will also lead the eligible candidates in choreography to experience a different kind of dance art. By putting the candidates on stage with the masters, they will not only have the opportunity to experience the rehearsals of a professional artist, but also receive stage training. Eligible candidates will also perform together to improve their musical skills such as pitch and rhythm, stimulating their interest in learning music. More importantly, the candidates will be able to acquire the skills that will facilitate their future career development in the music industry.

  • Eligible candidates will be given the opportunity to perform at one of Singapore's renowned theatres.

  • Trophies and certificates will be awarded to the prize-winning contestants and groups in the Golden Lion Awards Competition.

  • Eligible candidates will also have the privilege for face-to-face communication and photo-taking with renowned artists.

Grading System

  • All prizes will be granted according to the points candidates get in the final round.

  • Scores will be averaged by removing one highest and one lowest score given.

  • Judges will not be able to give a score for their own students.

Award Description

The Golden Lion Award, which was presented by the Singapore Government on 12 January 2016, is the only officially recognised award and the highest honour of the event.
